On the other hand, Etoposide, ICRF-193, ICRF-159, Merbarone, Teniposide, and Amsacrine all inhibit topoisomerase II, an enzyme required for the separation of sister chromatids. By inhibiting topoisomerase II, these chemicals can indirectly affect the function of Rec8, which is necessary for keeping sister chromatids together until their separation.
