Lipoic Acid Antibody (13C5) is a high quality monoclonal Lipoic Acid antibody (also designated Lipoic Acid antibody) suitable for the detection of the Lipoic Acid protein. Lipoic Acid Antibody (13C5) is available as the non-conjugated anti-Lipoic Acid antibody. Lipoic Acid, also known as alpha-lipoic acid, is an organic sulfer-containing fatty acid that consists of a cyclic disulfide and a carboxylic acid. The conjugate base of Lipoic Acid, namely Lipoate, is present under most physiological conditions and, like Lipoic Acid, is essential for aerobic life, participating in various transfer reactions within the pryruvate dehydrogenase complex. Via its essential role in metabolism, Lipoic Acid is thought to function as a neuroprotective agent and an anti-inflammatory compound, providing effective treatment for Alzheimer′s Disease, Parkinson′s Disease and Multiple Sclerosis. Additionally, Lipoic Acid can be used to treat mercury intoxication, as its two thiol groups provide strong chelating activity. Lipoic Acid is a common dietary supplement that is found in a variety of foods, including spinach, potatoes and broccoli, as well as liver, heart and kidney meat.

Hi, I am wondering if this antibody will work on lipoylated proteins and whether lipoic acid can be run on a gel. Thank you.
Asked by: Andrew1380
Thank you for your question. We have not tested this antibody for the detection of lipoylated proteins and so that is not a recommended application at this time. This antibody is recommended for detection of free and bound Lipoic Acid in Western blotting.

Can sc-101354: Lipoic Acid (13C5) monoclonal antibody be used to stain formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sections?
Asked by: jerojero
Thank you for your question. Yes, sc-101354: Lipoic Acid (13C5) is recommended for use in IHC with paraffin-embedded sections. We recommend performing antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6) and heat. The full protocol can be found here:
