D-Serine ethyl ester hydrochloride has been used to study spinocerebellar ataxia in murine models. It exhibits stereospecific modulation of N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) type glutamate receptors, which appears to reduce ataxia-related falling in a dose-dependent manner.
